About:The airport saw 1.5 million passengers in 2004 and experienced a 40 percent passenger growth since 2001. This increase in passenger traffic through the Florida Panhandle area has triggered an expansion and improvement project at the Pensacola Regional Airport. Current construction involves a 1,000 foot extension and resurfacing to its east/west runway which is scheduled to re-open in October of 2005.
PNS is located in Escambia County, approximately three miles northeast of the central business district of the City of Pensacola. Escambia County is located on the Gulf of Mexico in the extreme western portion of the Florida Panhandle and borders the State of Alabama on the west and north. On the east, Escambia County is bordered by Santa Rosa County, Florida. Pensacola is Central Time Zone.
